Empanadas, Entrepreneurs, and Education!

Being a small business owner can be tough, but fret not, there are many resources that can help!

The third Thursday of every month, the Empresas group of Adelante Mujeres hosts a workshop for Empresarios (business owners). The workshops take place in the business café area of the BESThq building in Beaverton, OR. They provide aspiring and current business owners with business-relevant information through various presentations and guest speakers.

Maribel De Leon, Director of Microenterprise Programs at Adelante Mujeres, presents at our monthly Empresas workshop at BESThq.

Dr. Luz from the Womens Center of Portland Community College was in attendance, informing the attendees about a college program offered through PCC. The program empowers women through free college courses. Many of the attendees were interested!

Roberto, from Country Financial, was also in attendance, informing business owners about the different types of insurance a business can have. After his presentation, he answered any and all questions that the entrepreneurs had through a Q & A.

Maribel De Leon, Director of Microenterprise Programs at Adelante Mujeres, informed the business owners about listening sessions that were taking place in BestHQ that following Saturday. Through the listening sessions, aspiring and existing businesses are able to voice their needs, as well as their successes, in reference to how city government is supporting Latino businesses in the region.

The room was buzzing with conversations about the newly shared knowledge, as well as the sweet smell of Empanadas from Rosita’s Bakery. Rosita’s Bakery, who is an Empresas participant, was there to learn about business insurance, as well as to cater the workshop with their delicious pastries! La Cazuela de Barro, another recently graduated Empresas participant who, provided the workshop guests with refreshing pineapple water to wash down all the knowledge and empanadas. It sure hit the spot!

Are you a current or aspiring business owner? What are you waiting for! Head on over to BESThq on the 3rd Thursdays of each month, where you’ll get to partake in informative presentations, do some networking, and enjoy delicious foods!
