Adult Education Program
The Adult Education Program works to empower Latina women through GED classes, English language development, trauma healing, health, and leadership classes.

Classes run during the school year and the next cohort begins in January 2024. In-person and virtual classes are available. Program Components
At Adelante Mujeres, our approach is holistic and our programs are interconnected. Participants of the Adult Education Program can also benefit from a variety of other programs and initiatives within the organization, all with the goal of providing safe learning spaces where women can flourish. All classes are taught in Spanish.
GED Preparation Classes
Students are supported through classes including basic math, computer, science, language arts, reading, and writing.
English Language Classes
Instructors provide students with weekly speaking, writing, and listening skills practice.
Leadership Development
Students build leadership skills by leading community events and political advocacy efforts they feel passionate about.
Parenting Development
Our parent participants receive “Parent Time” where they learn and develop parenting skills.
Trauma Healing & Mental Health
Students address and overcome trauma and gain access to our new Mental Health Program.
Nutrition & Health Leadership Training
Through cooking and nutrition classes and leadership opportunities, student gain tools to live a healthy life.

Program Strategies
Our Adult Education Program empowers Latine women coming from economically disadvantaged households to become more independent and self-sufficient. The women in the program are first- generation immigrants with limited formal education and English-language skills. Through a combination of individualized support and teamwork, women begin to thrive, become better advocates for their families, and active members of the community.
2Gen-Approach
Adelante Mujeres provides a Two-Generational (2Gen) learning model in which parents/caregivers and children learn in the same location. Learning is done in a shared and safe environment where parents/caregivers enroll in our Adult Education Program and their young children enroll in our Early Childhood Education Program. This learning model promotes healthy attachment, bonding, child development, and learning for both generations.
Popular Education
The Education Department within Adelante Mujeres utilizes a Popular Education approach, which breaks down the barrier between teacher and student, recognizing that everyone brings knowledge through life experience. We respect the wealth of knowledge and expertise that everyone brings to the classroom.
Culturally- Responsive
We are committed to the inclusion of communities of color and underserved communities by embedding culturally-responsive practices at all levels of our work.
Leadership Development
Empowering people from underrepresented communities of color to lead is infused in all programming at Adelante Mujeres. This is rooted in our belief that a community is strongest when everyone participates in community decision-making through active leadership.

Why Adult Education?
Socioeconomic status is a strong predictor of health and well-being. Research shows that perhaps the most influential of all is income. GED graduates can earn on average $9,000 more per year (2019).
There is a high need to increase resources for adults who seek to complete their education and skill level in basic literacy, math, and workforce readiness, particularly for immigrant women.
In 2002, the Adult Education Program grew out of the advocacy of immigrant women in Forest Grove seeking a safe space to learn. This program works to break down education disparities for Latine immigrants.
